It does cost more upfront than laying sod, but the difference is what happens afterward. A natural lawn keeps charging you every month for water, mowing, fertilizer, and weed control. Turf does not. Most of our North Texas installs recover the upfront premium in roughly seven to ten years through water and maintenance savings, and the surface keeps performing well beyond that. Quality turf typically lasts 15 to 20 years or more with light grooming, and the products we install carry manufacturer warranties commonly in the 8 to 15 year range. Spread the cost across that lifespan and weigh it against two decades of water bills and weekend mowing, and the math usually lands in turf’s favor.

That is the reputation older turf earned, and it is fair. Today’s products use multiple blade colors, varied blade heights, and a brown thatch layer that reads like real grass from a few feet away. The honest test is to touch it, so we will leave samples with you and point you to a real install nearby that has aged in the Texas sun, not just a fresh showroom square.

It does, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. In direct midday sun, turf runs warmer than natural grass, closer to a patio or a deck. The good news is that it does not hold the heat. It cools quickly in shade, and a short rinse with the hose brings the surface temperature down fast. We also offer cooling infills and lighter-colored products, and we plan placement and shade with you.

PFAS-related fluorine is found in nearly all artificial turf, so we will not claim ours has none. The most thorough peer-reviewed study to date found that the fluorine is mostly locked into the plastic in a form that does not easily come out, with more mobile types of PFAS appearing at low levels in fewer than half the samples. Rather than rely on general research, we hand you independent third-party lab results for the exact product going into your yard.

Done right, no. We install over a permeable crushed-limestone base with a perforated backing, so it drains faster than the clay soil most North Texas yards sit on. For dogs we add antimicrobial infill and can build in a deodorizing sub-base. Compare that to real grass, which turns to mud and leaves dead spots. Turf rinses clean and gives odor nothing to grow in. The key is the base work underneath, which is exactly where we do not cut corners.

Modern fibers are UV-stabilized, so fading is minimal across the warranty period. Melting is rare and specific: concentrated sunlight reflecting off certain energy-efficient windows can scorch a small area. We screen for that during the site visit and solve it with a screen or a product choice before it ever becomes a problem.

For a water-stressed region like ours, the biggest win is water. An established turf lawn needs essentially none, even under watering restrictions. It also ends gas mower emissions, fertilizer runoff, and pesticide use. The fair counterpoint is that turf is a plastic product. We work with recyclable options and handle removal responsibly at the end of its life, so the full picture is on the table.

Many North Texas HOAs now permit, or even encourage, turf under Texas water conservation rules.
